Removal planned around the material and the site

Finding asbestos does not automatically mean that everything must be removed. The appropriate response may be management in place, repair or encapsulation, controlled removal, or a combination of measures.

  • Review of surveys, sample results, photographs and proposed works
  • Correct classification as non-licensed, NNLW or licensable work
  • Work planning, access, waste routes and independent analytical requirements
  • Controlled completion with the relevant handover records

Common questions

Which asbestos service do I need?
A management survey supports normal occupation and routine maintenance; refurbishment and demolition surveys are matched to planned intrusive work. If you only need one suspect material identified, sampling may be appropriate. Confirmed asbestos may be managed, protected or removed depending on its condition, location and future disturbance. Send the postcode, photographs and intended work if you are unsure.
Are all ASM services UKAS accredited?
No. UKAS accreditation applies only to the defined inspection and testing activities on ASM's current ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17025 schedules. It does not accredit asbestos removal or soil remediation. Where removal is legally licensable, the work must be completed by an appropriately licensed asbestos-removal contractor.
Do you cover the whole UK?
ASM supports projects throughout England, Scotland and Wales through its Sunderland headquarters, regional offices and national project teams. Availability and mobilisation depend on the service, site and programme, so include the postcode and required date with your enquiry.
What information gives me the most accurate quotation?
Provide the full site address, property type, intended work, approximate size, access details and required date. Attach existing asbestos reports, drawings and clear photographs where available. For removal, include dimensions and material condition; for surveys, provide the refurbishment or demolition scope.
Does asbestos always have to be removed?
No. Asbestos in good condition may sometimes remain safely managed where it is protected, recorded and unlikely to be disturbed. Removal may be appropriate where material is damaged, vulnerable, obstructs planned work or cannot be managed reliably. The decision should follow a suitable assessment.
Can ASM support multi-site and corporate asbestos programmes?
Yes. ASM supports portfolio surveys, re-inspection programmes, asbestos management, project investigations and acquisition due diligence through regional teams. For a corporate requirement, send the asset schedule, existing asbestos information, planned works and required outcomes.
Is a Demolition Asbestos Survey the same as a demolition service?
No. A Demolition Asbestos Survey is the intrusive inspection used to identify asbestos before full or partial demolition. Full demolition services cover the separate structural, sequencing, plant, waste and site-clearance work needed to deliver the demolition project.
