During the 2026 summer holiday period, ASM and F&I Group completed planned asbestos removal works at six local schools across the Leeds area.
The works were undertaken within a very tight, pre-agreed programme so that the required school improvement works could proceed and each building could be prepared for reopening before pupils returned. The individual scopes included the controlled removal of asbestos insulating board (AIB), asbestos thermal insulation and asbestos-cement products, together with asbestos floor tiles and the associated asbestos-containing bitumen adhesive and screed beneath. Asbestos-cement roof removal from a farm building outside Leeds
A recent rural project involved removing asbestos-cement roof sheets from an agricultural building just outside Leeds. The work required the asbestos controls to be integrated with fragile-roof precautions, work-at-height planning, farm access and the condition of the supporting steel structure.
Working to the task-specific plan of work, RAMS and ASM asbestos-cement removal SOPs, the site team established the controlled work area, fragile-roof controls and safe access arrangements before starting removal. Suitable fibre-suppression measures were maintained while the sheet fixings were released individually, allowing the asbestos-cement panels to be removed whole wherever reasonably practicable without being dropped or deliberately broken. The sheets were lowered in a controlled manner. They were then wrapped in 1,000-gauge polythene and placed directly into the awaiting sealed, lockable asbestos-waste skip before transfer under the applicable waste-carrier and consignment arrangements to an appropriately permitted hazardous-waste facility. Once the roof covering had been removed, the exposed purlins, steelwork, ledges and surrounding work area were systematically cleaned with Class H vacuum equipment fitted with HEPA filtration, with all visible fragments, residues and associated waste removed. An independent consultant from a UKAS-accredited asbestos organisation then completed the agreed completion assessment and detailed visual inspection, confirming that the removal areas had been fully cleared and H-vacuumed before handover. The building was released for the client's next roofing or construction phase only after this independent assessment and confirmation that all asbestos waste had left the site through the controlled waste route.
