UKAS-accredited inspection and testing, with the scope kept clear

Asbestos Surveying and Monitoring Ltd holds UKAS accreditation number 32982 for defined inspection activities to ISO/IEC 17020 and testing activities to ISO/IEC 17025. The current schedules define the accredited activities and locations. Bulk asbestos identification is undertaken at the Sunderland laboratory.

Accreditation applies to the organisation and its defined activities. Asbestos removal, preparation of management plans, watching briefs and soil remediation are not described as UKAS-accredited work.

Compare like with like

A useful quotation states exactly what is included

The lowest headline price is only meaningful where survey depth and inclusions are comparable.

Inspection scope

Survey type, buildings, floors, rooms, work areas, external elements and outbuildings.

Sampling & access

Representative sampling, high-level access, isolation and destructive-opening requirements.

Reporting

Expected report format, photographs, plans, turnaround and client-specific data requirements.

Cambridge cost drivers

Why two Cambridge properties of the same size can have different prices

  • survey type
  • property size and layout
  • historic conversions or extensions
  • occupation and escorts
  • high-level or restricted access
  • sampling requirements
  • programme and turnaround
The cheapest survey is poor value if the report does not cover the work you intend to undertake.

For refurbishment or demolition, send drawings and the proposed work boundary before accepting the quote.

Cambridge survey quotations: plan the access sequence

Controlled entry and client preparation

Permits, escorts and specialist preparation may affect the time and sequence of inspection in research or institutional premises. Tell ASM which arrangements the client will provide and when rooms will be released. The quotation should make these assumptions explicit rather than treat every square metre as equally accessible.

A programme of individual rooms

Several short access windows can require more attendance than one continuous visit to an empty building. Provide the room list, vacancy dates and dependencies. Compare whether each quotation includes the same investigation boundary, repeat access and report delivery stages; a programme allowance should reflect the actual available spaces.

Scope and reporting requirements

State whether the evidence is needed for ongoing management, tender design or a defined construction phase. Agree samples, laboratory analysis, plans and restricted-area follow-up. National guide prices assist early budgeting, but do not include an assumed Cambridge premium or guarantee a rate for an unspecified campus or property.

A survey quotation should answer these questions

Confirm the deliverables when agreeing the commission, then review the information against the actual property or work scope.

  • Which survey type, buildings, rooms and external structures are included?
  • How are representative sampling, laboratory analysis and additional suspect materials priced?
  • Who provides keys, escorts, isolation, specialist access and any required vacancy?
  • What reporting, drawings, turnaround, VAT and return-visit assumptions apply?

If a location, quantity or assumption is unclear, resolve it before the relevant maintenance or construction stage. Keep reports and completion evidence together so the next contractor can understand what was assessed, what changed and what still needs attention.

Compare Cambridge survey quotations consistently

  • The same included rooms, structures and survey depth.
  • Sampling, analysis, plans and reporting stages.
  • Escorts, permits, opening-up and making-good responsibilities.
  • Repeat attendance, unresolved areas and the agreed timetable.

For surrounding locations such as Histon, Impington, Milton, Girton, Fulbourn, Great Shelford, Sawston and Waterbeach, provide the exact postcode and service required. Attendance is confirmed against scope, access and programme. A Cambridge postal address does not necessarily place a site within the city boundary.

Asbestos Survey Cost Cambridge FAQs

Is asbestos sampling included in a survey price?

Representative sampling is normally undertaken where required within the agreed survey strategy. The quotation should state the sampling arrangements.

Can ASM provide a fixed written survey quote?

Yes. A project-specific quotation can be prepared once the property, survey purpose, access, planned works and reporting requirements are clear.

Are these confirmed Cambridge survey prices?

No. The figures are current ASM national budgeting guides. A Cambridge quotation depends on the property, purpose, access, sampling and reporting requirements, with the agreed inclusions confirmed in writing.

How do I arrange a written quotation?

Send the site address, purpose of the enquiry, photographs, existing asbestos information, relevant plans and target dates. ASM will confirm the appropriate scope and the information needed to price the work.

Is there an ASM laboratory in Cambridge?

ASM’s accredited bulk-analysis laboratory is at Sunderland headquarters. Cambridge is a service area; use the published ASM contact details to arrange attendance or laboratory submission.

Do permits and escorts affect a Cambridge survey quotation?

They can affect the sequence and resources required. Explain the client’s arrangements and available access windows so the quotation records realistic assumptions and responsibilities.

Can several room releases be priced as one empty-building visit?

Only if the actual programme supports that attendance pattern. Supply the room sequence and occupation details, and agree any repeat visits and reporting stages in the written scope.

Can I enquire about a site outside Cambridge city?

Yes. Send the address and service required for a surrounding location such as Histon, Impington, Milton, Girton, Fulbourn, Great Shelford, Sawston or Waterbeach. Attendance depends on scope, access and programme. Use the exact site address to identify the relevant authority and permissions.
