Use results correctly

Testing identifies the sample—not the entire property

Positive result

Do not disturb the material. Assess condition, exposure risk and whether management or removal is appropriate.

No asbestos detected

The result relates to the material submitted. It cannot clear other visually similar or concealed materials.

Construction project

A sample certificate is not a substitute for a refurbishment or demolition survey across the full work scope.

Damaged area

If dust or debris is present, seek advice on isolation, clean-up and possible air monitoring before reoccupation.

Asbestos testing FAQs

Where is the asbestos testing laboratory for Edinburgh samples?

Samples are analysed at our UKAS-accredited laboratory in Sunderland. The Edinburgh office at 3 Hill Street supports local clients and site attendance but is not presented as the accredited laboratory location.

How much is an asbestos test?

The public standard service is £25 per sample and the public urgent service is £50 per sample. Trade services start at £9.65 plus VAT per sample, subject to account and submission terms.

Is the asbestos testing UKAS accredited?

Bulk identification is undertaken under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation, UKAS number 32982, for activities shown on the current testing schedule.

Can you collect the asbestos sample in Edinburgh?

Yes. Book professional asbestos sampling if you want a trained surveyor to attend, collect and submit the material rather than handling it yourself.

Does a negative result mean my building is asbestos-free?

No. It means asbestos was not detected in the sample analysed. Other products, areas and concealed materials remain outside that result unless they were separately inspected and sampled.
